Lithium-Ion Batteries

The current rising demand and escalating prices of fossil fuel (i.e., petroleum, coal) with environmental impacts resulting from conventional energy resources are some of the planetary challenges pushing the researchers to look for an alternative low cost, abundant nature, and environment-friendly energy resources such as sunlight. In 1991, Grȁtzel built the first dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), which is one of the promising sustainable solution for production of renewable, clean and affordable energy. In addition, DSSCs are fabricated from cheap and non-toxic components and can be designed in a various colors and transparent devices, which can differentiate them from a conventional photovoltaic concept for integrated renewable energy.

    Our lab is focused on developing high-capacity, long-life lithium-ion batteries. We are conducting next-generation battery research based on three key strategies to achieve this goal.

    Our lab is researching direct recycling methods for spent batteries. This approach reduces energy consumption and provides greater economic benefits compared to conventional indirect recycling methods.
