Next generation solar cells such as dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), organic solar cell, quantum dot solar cell, and perovskite solar cell have been developed in aspects of ease of fabrication and low-cost.
The current rising demand and escalating prices of fossil fuel (i.e., petroleum, coal) with environmental impacts resulting from conventional energy resources are some of the planetary challenges pushing the researchers to look for an alternative low cost, abundant nature, and environment-friendly energy resources such as sunlight. In 1991, Grȁtzel built the first dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), which is one of the promising sustainable solution for production of renewable, clean and affordable energy.
Supercapacitors are cutting-edge energy storage systems that bridge the gap between conventional capacitors and batteries. Compared to other energy storage systems, supercapacitors offer additional advantages of fast charge-discharge rate, high power density, and reliable cycle life. These characteristics enable supercapacitors to deliver energy much faster than batteries, making them critical in applications in which high-power output is required over short durations.
